Big Thunder Gold Mine

Historic to Present

Big Thunder Gold Mine was discovered by German Immigrants W.B. Krupp and J.A. Engle in 1892, during the Gold Rush ushered in by General Custer. Throughout the years the mine has morphed into the fun and educational attraction it is today. Touring the mine, learning to pan, and how to find gold are only a few of the things we offer at the mine. Come join us in person or order a kit at our online shop to get started!

Joe was our tour guide and he was amazing! He had plenty of knowledge and facts to share. He was able to answer the questions the group members had and was very happy and cheery! He even kept it pg for my daughter under 10 and was still able to tell us the story of the place! It was such a fantastic time! We did the gold panning, and it was pretty fun!!
